Now that Tony-winning Pippin star Andrea Martin is a circus pro, she’ll be juggling a big family as the matriarch on the new Canadian TV series Working the Engels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Written by Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality) and Jane Ford (Listen Missy), 12 episodes of the new sitcom will be filmed for Global Television. No additional casting has been announced.
No premiere date has been announced for the series, which begins filming in Toronto this fall. Martin, a Tony winner for her performance as agile grandma Berthe in Pippin, has not revealed when she’ll exit the Broadway production.
Martin won a second Tony Award for My Favorite Year and garnered additional nominations for Candide and Oklahoma! Her notable film and TV credits include SCTV, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Wag the Dog and The Producers.
